How to Detail Luxury Cars Properly – Ultimate Guide

Luxury cars represent all of the hard work, sweat, and tears you’ve put into getting to the top of your game. But buying one is just the start.

Even though these cars are the top of the car industry, they still to be maintained properly.

Ordinary detailing won’t suffice. Today, you’ll learn the exact things you need to do (and that we do here at River Islands Car Salon for luxury cars from customers) to keep your car in best shape possible.

Let’s go!

How to Detail the Exterior

Use a high-quality, pH-neutral car wash shampoo, and use soft microfiber wash mitts or lambswool wash mitts to clean the paint. A clay bar can help in removing stubborn parts.

You can use a technique that involves using two separate buckets – one for soapy water and another for rinsing your wash mitt.

After washing, pat the surface gently. Using a high quality microfiber drying towel helps keep the paint intact.

Additionally, consider employing a touchless air dryer or a leaf blower for even safer drying.

What about swirl marks?

Gently polish to address swirl marks without causing more damage. Waxing further protects the exterior from environmental items.

Ceramic Coating

Since you already paid a ton of money for a car, it might be a good idea to spend a couple more bucks on ceramic coating.

It goes a long way in maintain your car.

What is ceramic coating?

Ceramic coating creates a shield against UV rays, bird droppings, tree sap, and other stuff, preserving your car’s paint.

The hydrophobic properties make water bead off, keeping your car looking freshly detailed for an extended period of time.

Trust me, it turns heads on the streets for months.

And then there’s the convenience.

The non-stick surface of ceramic coatings reduces the need for frequent detailing. Dirt and grime slide off effortlessly, making cleaning easy.

The thing about ceramic coating is that it should not be DIY-ed. There’s just too much margin for error. Let us do it instead with our ceramic coating services.

Paint Protection Film (PPF)

Similar to ceramic coating, Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a transparent, self-healing film applied to a car’s paint, preventing damage from stone chips, bug splatter, and other road debris.

The thing is that PPF is designed to be virtually invisible, keeping the car looking almost identical to before.

PPF or ceramic coating?

PPF may have a slight edge in terms of protection, but ceramic coating adds the incredible looks on top of the protective layer (which is more than enough for most cars anyway).

Once you apply PPF (should be done by a professional too), or for those who already have it, use mild, pH-balanced cleaners and soft microfiber towels to clean PPF-protected areas, avoiding harsh chemicals.

You can even combine PPF and ceramic coating.

These two complement each other, with ceramics guarding the surface against environmental items, and PPF tackling more intensive physical damage from road debris and stone chips.

You get the best of both worlds – protection and looks.

How to Detail the Interior

It’s all fun and games until coffee spills. Or, even worse, when there’s vomit.

We’ll get to that. Let’s start with the basics.

Upholstery Cleanup

Use mild, pH-balanced cleaners specifically designed for premium leather and upholstery to prevent damage.

Apply quality conditioners regularly to keep leather supple and prevent drying and cracking.

Use a high-quality leather protectant to shield leather surfaces from UV rays, preventing fading and cracking. Apply with a soft applicator for even coverage.

For fabrics, a water-based fabric protectant for upholstery repels stains and spills, applying according to product instructions.

And lastly, for Alcantara, clean with a dedicated cleaner and a soft brush, avoiding excessive moisture.

Tech Cleanup

It’s not as tricky as it may seem.

Use anti-static cleaners for touchscreen displays and electronic components to remove dust and minimize static electricity.

For screens, use soft microfiber cloths.

And then there are lint-free cloths to clean lighting components. You can’t make a mistake with cloths here either.

Deep Interior Cleaning

Now, this is where it gets hard.

Deep cleaning stains, sand, or pet hair is not easy. It takes excessive work, and it’s very easy for you to start coughing or experience discomfort from bad smalls.

This is the part where you should call a professional like us for a deep interior cleanup
